Forest & Birdwatching

LAVA

Overview

Lava is a small hill station about 30 km from Kalimpong, nestled within the Neora Valley National Park. The dense forests of Lava are home to an extraordinary variety of birds, making it one of the top birdwatching destinations in India with over 200 recorded species.

Birdwatching & Trekking

The forests are draped in moss and ferns, with towering oaks, rhododendrons, and magnolias creating a magical canopy. Trekking trails wind through the forest to viewpoints offering stunning vistas of the Kanchenjunga. The Lava Monastery, a small but beautiful Buddhist shrine, adds a spiritual dimension to the visit.
